This isn’t So You Think You Can Dance.
At the release party they had professional dancers playing game in an almost flawless fashion. Good for me, I didn’t need any formal dance training to have fun with this game.
As I turned on my PS3 I didn’t really know what to expect from Just Dance 4. When the home screen loaded I was presented with two options: “Just Dance” and “Sweat.” Immediately intimidated by the “sweat” mode, I chose the prior.
I then decided to pick the most outrageous song I could think of: Beauty and a Beat by Justin Bieber.
The song was pretty intense, but the game was forgiving in its scoring (I had no idea what I was doing). As opposed to other games of this nature such as Dance Dance Revolution or Rockband, this game allows songs to be played out in their entirety regardless of score.
After I got through the Bieber track, Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin was the next logical choice. This is when I realized the key to enjoying this game is not to worry about your score, and instead, worry about having a good time.
To ensure this good time make sure to have a drinks on standby while you get into this game.
As for the music, Just Dance 4 is full of songs that most guys in college wouldn’t be proud to know all the words to. However, most guys in college probably do know all the words to these songs.
That’s another part of this game which I personally enjoy, it makes you step out of your comfort zone and dance around a living room to songs which most would find to be “uncool.” Not to mention, the moves you have to do can be absolutely ridiculous. This is great if you have women at your party (I hope you do). Because, it is a great way to start flirting and get everyone in a fun mood before heading out to a real dance floor later in the evening.
I enjoyed that all of the core songs were unlocked and I did not have to go through a career mode to unlock them (you can unlock playlists and mashups in career). The songs are what really carry this game. It’s not revolutionary in the world of dance games, but it’s surely hilarious in the world of dance games.
I personally won’t play this game alone, or do the “sweat” mode. However, it’s perfect for a party setting. The graphics displayed while songs are being played are catchy, it’s easy to play and sure to provide you with some laughs.
